2. Inglourious Basterds $ 20 Million $ 73.7 Million
3. Halloween 2 $ 17.4 Million NEW

8. Shorts $ 4.9 Million $ 13.6 Million
9. Taking Woodstock $ 3.7 Million NEW
10. G-Force $ 2.8 Million $ 111.8 Million

Here is the second installment of my weekend box office analysis. Even though I knew it was going to happen, it is sad to actually see The Final Destination take the top spot. People never cease to amaze me. It will be the same when Saw 20 comes to theatre in the fall. Whatever happened to quality movies? Nevermind, there are two quality movies hanging in the top 5. Inglorious Basterds is one of the best movies of the year. I could go on for hours about it. Tarantino proves why I consider him to be one of my favorite directors (future top 5 list?). District 9 is still doing excellent. Good to see an interesting scifi flick staying strong. The two-headed monster of Julie & Julia and The Time Traveler’s Wife are still reeling in the dough at 6 and 7. I’m guessing that girlfriends across the country got their way for yet another week.

Arctic Monkeys – Humbug

Arctic Monkeys are known for their catchy hooks and polished rock songs. What makes this record good is the experimentation that they took. There aren’t as many straight-forward pop songs. This more mature sound is a nice addition to their solid discography. While the album fails to top their first two albums, it is far from an unwelcomed addition. The first two only needed one spin to be hooked, this one takes repeated listens. The best records take time to get into. If you ask me about this one in a couple months, my opinion could be completely different. I respect this album and the band’s new sound. It is worth checking out. (3.5/5)

Inception Trailer

24 08 2009

The trailer for Inception was released today. What is Inception? It is the new movie from Christopher Nolan of Batman, Memento, and The Prestige fame.  Basically, he continues to put out some of the eras best movies. This movie looks like it will continue his legacy into the next decade. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Cillian Murphy amongst others. Not only is it stacked on the acting front, the movie looks insane. The trailer leaves a lot to the imagination. Check it out for yourself:

The only problem is that it comes out in July of next year. Something tells me that it will be well worth the wait.

Weekend Box Office

23 08 2009

The weekend box office numbers were released:

1. Inglourious Basterds $ 37.6 Million NEW
2. District 9 $ 18.9 Million $ 73.5 Million
3. G.I. Joe $ 12.5 Million $ 120.5 Million
4. The Time Traveler’s… $ 10 Million $ 37.4 Million
5. Julie & Julia $ 9 Million $ 59.3 Million
6. Shorts $ 6.6 Million NEW
7. G-Force $ 4.2 Million $ 107.3 Million
8. Harry Potter and… $ 3.5 Million $ 290.3 Million
9. The Ugly Truth $ 2.9 Million $ 82.9 Million
10. Post Grad $ 2.8 Million NEW

It is good to see Inglorious Basterds open at the top. I have yet to see it, but will be as soon as possible. District 9 did pretty well pulling in enough to stay in second. It is well deserved. Girlfriends everywhere are keeping The Time Traveler’s Wife and Julie & Julia on the radar. It is also impressive that Harry Potter is still pulling in some dough. Post Grad comes in at 10, proving that it probably should of just came out on Lifetime. The Ugly Truth earned $83 million dollars total? The ugly truth is that a shit movie can make that much money. The Goods drops out after a dismal showing. Why is the movie called The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard? Why can’t it just be The Goods? I bet if they dropped that stupid ass second part the movie could of made more than $7 million. Live Hard, Sell Hard? Like honestly, that is one of the worst attempts to be funny.

Avatar Trailer

20 08 2009

One of the most anticipated movies this year is Avatar. It is directed by James Cameron of Titanic, Aliens, and Terminator fame. This is Cameron’s first movie since Titanic. That is over ten years. He has a thing for putting out epic movies and this one looks continue that legacy. The movie is going to be in 3D Imax. Here is the HD trailer. It looks like no other movie that I’ve seen before. I’m expecting big things.

My Top 5 Most Anticipated Albums (Remainder of ’09)

20 08 2009

5) Say Anything – Say Anything (OCT 13)

If this album is more toward the the …Is A Real Boy part of the spectrum than it should be a worthy release. In Defense of the Genre suffered a little bit because of a couple bad tracks. If it had been condensed into one album it would of been great. They have a pretty unique style and it should be interesting to hear this one.

4) Arctic Monkeys – Humbug (AUG 25)

This one should be interesting because of the more mature sound that they have found. They have a knack for making extremely catchy songs. This one is no exception. Will this mature sound make for a good record? Check back on Tuesday for the review.

3) The Fall of Troy – In The Likely Event (OCT 6)

The Fall of Troy have a new LP coming out to follow up Manipulator. I hope they stick to the production style that made Doppelganger so awesome. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Manipulator. If it can maintain the same chaos that Doppelganger had it should be awesome.

2) Muse – The Resistance (SEPT 14)

The days keep getting closer to the release of what is a sure to be epic album from Muse. I have fought off the urge to listen to any of the advance streams of the new songs off the album. I am going to stay true and listen to this one in all it’s glory. I’m trying to listen to the least amount possible in order to go in with no expectations.

1) Brand New – Daisy (SEPT 22)

I am curious to see if this album makes as big of a leap musically as their previous albums have from each other. From what I have listened too, it sounds like it is in the realm of TDAGARIM. However, it seems like they are going with a much different vocal delivery. Those are my first impressions from the three songs that I have heard. The rest of this album is a mystery. I think the mystery is what makes this my number one. That, and the fact that they always put out quality music.

What are your most anticipated albums? Hit the comments for some discussion.
